There seems to be some confusion about the high school on AD.

NO ONE is opening a private high school.

It is an on line high school program being offered.

I believe AD posted something not long ago about on line high school and anyone can attend.

  1. It is really unfortunate that the AD continues to publish false information. Here is the TRUTH, although I doubt the AD will read it or care. In 2012, I was approached by a small number of parents that were looking for an alternative to SPHS and one that would allow their children to earn a HS diploma from the US. I was solicited to be involved because of my 27 years of education experience, 13 as a classroom teacher and 14 as a school administrator in the US. The parents wanted to have something available for the 2013-2014 school year. A LOT of work was done and a LOT of planning went into attempting to open an alternative HS with an online curriculum. Some mistakes were made, not because anyone intended to do anything wrong or illegal, the mistakes were out of ignorance, but still mistakes. By time everything was corrected and all the required paperwork was sent to the GOB, it was too late to open and all but one student had enrolled in a HS of their choice. NO PARENT EVER PAID ANY MONEY TO REGISTER OR ENROLL A STUDENT. Because of the roadblocks experienced by myself and the parents, the idea was “scrapped.”

There is an online HS option that HAS been approved by the government. It will offer the Belize HS curriculum and can be accessed by any HS student for a fairly nominal fee. There was an article awhile back in the San Pedro Sun about this option and the Belize educator that developed the program. This is a new program, not one that is in any way associated with the HS that fell through in 2014.

The 2013-2014 school year has now come to a close. There was no private online option offered this past year. No one paid for an online option. No refunds are necessary. There is no private online option for the 2014-2015 school year. Again, no money was paid by any parent. I am embracing my retirement from education and have no plans to develop any option for anyone else’s children in this community. It is sad that those of us that attempted to do something positive for students, at the request of parents, have been slandered and vilified by the AD. I won’t put myself in that position again.

What has the AD EVER done to support the youth of this community?
